World Malaria Day 2009

Today is World Malaria Day.

Many more people are aware of this fact in 2009 with the increase in advocacy, particularly  in the Western world. Some would say malaria is now “hip”. For others, that’s as much a cause for concern as it is for celebration. In any case I’ll certainly take a minute today to reflect on how far we’ve come, and where we’ll go.

Hi topnaman. Enjoyed checking out your blog. This is an interesting article in the Uganda Daily monitor I thought you might be interested in: http://www.monitor.co.ug/artman/publish/news/Health_Minister_MPs_clash_at_Malaria_Day_Celebrations_83891.shtml

For me, it illustrates the disconnect that is often present, but rarely shown, between the image that events like this try to transmit and the deeper dynamics that exist behind the speeches. Interesting to see those two things collide!

    thanks Greg,

interesting indeed. Though probably less entertaining if we had to live there!

Everyone knows the disconnect – but few acknowledge it and the reasons for that are both benign and malignant. I’m more worried about the former.
